Covid-19 Micro Wedding, Dorking Surrey • Mel and James
THIS WEDDING WAS SUPER SPECIAL.
This was the first of the three micro weddings I was still able to shoot due to the ongoing Corona Virus pandemic that started in 2020. At the time, I thought it would be my first and last of the year. However I went on to shoot one wedding as a second shooter and one teeny Ceremony. I was SO excited to be out shooting after 8 months of not being able to do the job that I love, and really didn’t want to leave!
Mel and James got in touch last minute, as sadly, like most couples in 2020, they were unable to go through with their original wedding plans. They lived in Manchester but James grew up in Dorking, and having to downsize, M + J chose to get married in St Paul’s Church, which is the Church that James’ parents got married in many moons ago. Their micro wedding was officiated, and the service conducted by a close friend of the family, which I thought was a really lovely and personal touch to the day!
After the Ceremony, we popped down the road to some local farmland where James and his brother used to play when they were younger, for their couple shots. This is one of my favourite parts of the day, and I feel its even more important during this difficult time to make sure we make time to get these type of shots no matter how small your coverage. Life is too short not to celebrate these moments!
For their Reception, M + J booked a beautiful meal at the White Horse, on Dorking High Street, and this is where my time with them came to an end. I was honestly sad to leave as I’d had a really lovely time capturing M + J’s micro wedding and wanted to carry on capturing the fun and laughter.
I wasn’t sure what to expect as this was my first wedding shooting in this type of situation. However it was truly beautiful and everyone was buzzing to be there, and it was so lovely to finally be able to capture all the love and happiness of this special day again.
